Melchior Project
"Musical traditions in Wallonia"
The MELCHIOR project was launched in 2018 by the Médiathèque of IMEP (Institut supérieur de Musique et de Pédagogie de Namur), around the musical traditions of Wallonia.
A double statement was at the origin of this initiative : our Walloon musical heritage remains mostly unknown and difficult to access.
This heritage does however not lack wealth, as recently shown by several beautiful musical and dance projetcs.
The MELCHIOR projetc's goal is therefore to facilitate access to the Walloon sung and instrumental repertoire and to valorize it.
The project is made up of several stages: a website to centralize existing collections ; a digitization campaign for old recordings ; musical and educational projects, etc.
On Saturday September the 7th 2019 (from 1 pm to 2:30 pm, Espace Lejeune), as part of the Marsinne Folk Festival, Marie-Hélène and Julien Maréchal, initiators of the project, will present every aspects of the MELCHIOR project, its challenges, its perspectives, its questions, and will of course allow you to listen to some nuggets.
An exchange time will also allow whoever wishes to share reactions or suggestions.
